“On The House” by John Boehner , My Book Report

With a name like his, that’s spelled like his is, you’ve got to have a sense of humor – which he definitely does – given the way kids parody phonetically when you are growing up!

His first chapter was the most difficult for me to read because he came-off like a tattle-tale snitch against his colleagues’ perks! He betrayed himself and his Congressional members by outing their rather innocuous inside restaurant, Congressional bank and other fringe benefits, which I think he could have handled better; more friendlier to the legacy of “smoke-filled rooms” and all of that mysterious symbolism.  That was Boehner’s power trip boner; taking down legends like Charles Rangel and Dan Rostenkowski was shameful, IMO.

After that, the book became much more palatable, entertaining and almost autobiographic to read – with many photos! 

Regardless of his political party, this is one self-deprecatingly, often funny and pretty down-to-earth type guy (who tears-up a lot, adding to his credibility with this writer)!

There are many frank and amusing passages which produce laugh out loud moments during the fast paced read, which takes you inside of how our legislative branch works these days, and his road to becoming one of it’s recent leaders.  You’ll  learn Mr. Boehner’s four passions: The USA, golf and two others you’ll have to learn by reading the book!

Sadly, apparently, the only black American he ever interacted much with was President Barack Obama, because there isn’t mention of any others, except a brief sentence describing Vernon Jordan’s relationship to President Bush.  Boehner wrote  some things about Obama that I was surprised to learn!  I would have thought that President Obama would have been a bit more humble about his winning the majority vote twice, in an effort to better deal with and reach across the party lines according to the Boehner’s accounts.  He doesn’t even, at least, give him more credit for his unifying oratory skills!

His impressions of the 45^th President’s propensity to talk before thinking are spot-on.

The best chapter is the next to last, when he astutely talks about the relations between the press, government and citizens who consume it via a cautionary analysis regarding information overload and the potential for “weaponizing” of the news.  Instead of like when I was a music radio disc jockey, we’d play the save five songs (or so), sixteen times a day for “x” amount of hours and days to sell advertising via the spots contained therein.  These days, the songs are replaced with exaggerated and often unproven statements designed to “gin you up” – as Mr. Boehner writes – to get angry about something and keep you coming back for more of that poison.    Its a must-read chapter in this very readable book.

Its the fine print overlooked when government deregulated and allowed inside, the devil of corporate-controlled broadcasting, and specifically with regard to market ownership limits and radio stations specifically.

He ironically even touches upon the current unprovoked Russian attack on the peaceful country of Ukraine, almost as if he were predicting it! Wow.

Bad Behavior Emanates From The Top Is The Word

Just like in a company, where the employees reflect the personality of the CEO, so goes a nation or country, IMO.
Hearing about more terrible acts of gun violence, antisemitism and racial intolerance in-general these days is directly related to the individual who is, unfortunately, the current “CEO” of our country, The United States of America, residing in our “White House”.

Every American should own one of these. Just call and they will send you one!

As a general rule, I intentionally steer clear of polity here, but my diary is exploding with the need to carry this cautionary educational message for our last post of 2019.

Like the late American President Ronald Reagan’s “trickle-down economics”, so goes the behavior of our country morally, socially, attitudinally and emotionally. Not saying all of us are so influenced – we who have education, independence and individuality enough to make our own decisions don’t quickly fall under the spell of the “soup-of-the-day” – but many people who erroneously feel their voices aren’t heard, do drink the (spiked with hate) cool-aid.

This individual of whom I speak has no shame; when he is wrong in thought, word or deed, always finds someone else to blame – like Adolph Hitler did. His absence of character staidness has filtered dangerously into pockets of our populace, similar to how a cult would.

His recreant attempts to somehow bend the traditional and established norms of the office he and his contrivers misinformed groupies into casting electoral votes for and acts in depredation of our Constitutional rules terrorize our very way of life over the six decades that I have been alive and beyond. It is as if the late Alabama Governor who stood in the doorway of educational institutions to deny black students entry in order to preserve segregation has been reincarnated into a slightly slicker, taller version! Without shame, lying and then lying again as a spoiled child would when caught red-handed time and time again, while querulous about the press (aka “media”) he is at the very least pernicious to our civil discourse among a diverse nation of people. He doesn’t know when to belt-up!

Fantasy: I wish I could run for president so I could beat him! Reality: Yet, I am too much an imperfect human being, and in this climate of looking up candidate’s assholes, those willing to take me down would find some shit they would try to wipe my face with. Therefore, I feel that something/someone else will have to happen to save us “normal” educated majority masses from this dictator wannabe. Denial never solves; it makes it worse. This guy plans to campaign for another term with soiled underwear showing through his pants, without compunction about his repulsive smell, because he refuses to wipe his own behind.

He can’t wipe enough!

The solution is to elect a leader who speaks not in 140-character “tweets”, but to us all with televised speeches and with the traditional “weekly radio address”, eloquently, teaching and uniting upon the civil manners, mores and etiquette-based values of yore. Too much contentious nonsense with this guy; time for a return to compromise and civility in America. Even with the few things that disappointed me about President Obama, I know that we were a happier country during his two terms and neither Bush, Clinton, Bush the Father, Reagan nor Carter and their predecessors trampled upon our sacred U.S. Constitution like this guy is!

And that brings me to my Word of The Year for 2019:

Every time I turned around this past year, from the time my Charleston, South Carolina Wando landlord sought to not renew my lease in early spring, for reasons which are still a mystery, I found myself thinking or uttering aloud, “TERRIBLE!”

*Relocating interstate into a falsely advertised house to find moldy, sickening air and an uncooperative property manager: “terrible!”
*Uncouth, embarrassing behavior by the so-called President alienating allies? “Terrible!”
*almost weekly reports of mass shootings of innocents and gun violence not seen in decades! “terrible!!”
*antisemitism rising to a level not seen since Hitler’s time. “Terrible!”
*Copy-cat violence and too many guns on city streets – “Terrible”
*Oh, did I mention the obstinate Property Manager? Yes, I did but he gets another “TERRIBLE”.
*Ageism making money hard to come by the longer you live? “Terrible”.
*Not being able to get back on the radio in the profession I loved and was very good at? “Terrible!”
*Watching senescent relatives aging and the breakdown of our human bodies with disease, is in many ways sad and…almost, ”terrible”.
*Corporate greed and the closing of brick and mortar stores: “terrible”.
*Increasing lack of human toll takers at bridges and tunnels and all those jobs lost? “Terrible!”
*Many loose nuts with mental illness running loose when they shouldn’t be, and causing harm to people? – “Terrible”
*Educational disconnect between generations born since 1999, which leads to the collective having to revisit atrocities we thought were settled and negative history repeating itself. “Terrible and tragic”.
*Housing construction codes so poor one can hear the flushed water of the tenant upstairs cascading inside the wall – gross and “Terrible!”
*People staying inside too much and watching too much video and television – especially the news – “terrible!”

We teeter on the edge of abysmal era where there is no punishment for obvious transgressions by an executive, if he can deny it long enough. – like Watergate in 1973. That would be truly terrible if it comes to pass. United we stand, divided we fall.

Please have a safe day and keep your head on a swivel while enjoying and having as much fun as possible, these troubled times due to a cheater who subverted our system to get into our White House.

As we again commemorate the only true Black American (descendants of slaves) Holiday in America, the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Day here on January 18, 2016, I think it timely to resurrect the late musical genius of Curtis Mayfield, who would want to point-out his words to this latest generation of look-a-like black immigrants who did not get the message that we already fought and WON this battle. “Black Lives Matter” is taking the USA back in time to where we were. DO you homework, stay in school till you get a University degree and behave yourselves, you new, Caribbean and African can brown-skinned peoples! Dr. King’s real birthday was January 15, 1929, by the way. Another famous Capricorn leader like Muhammad Ali and even Confederate General Robert E. Lee!

All HUMAN lives DO matter in the physical world; we must embrace the heavy lifting – without violence, as the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King did – in order to live together. Are you up to being smart instead of ignorant due lack of extensive historical education? If you have a sales business, why aren’t there “King Birthday” sales, for example? Jus’ sayin’…

Pearl Harbor Day 2015 Has More Meaning Than Ever!; Elusive “Dead Man” Sleep and 2015 Loose Ends

Another Presidental politician’s shell game. It was nice that he became the first non-Caucasian American leader, yet I have never considerd him the “first black President” as so many have. He is not a Black American, in my opinion – he is just brown and not really “down” with us. He has done nothing to promote true Black American men during his tenure. He is a woman’s President.

As we commemorate Pearl Harbor Day here in 2015 I wonder how many people I drive next to daily or work with even know the importance of this day and how it is even more relevant now when juxtaposed against the backdrop of the September 11, 2001 attacks and the recent evil perpetuated by the barbarians in France that are spawned in its wake.
I agree with United States of America Presidential candidate, Mr Donald Trump, that we should sequester all “Muslims” who have come the USA in the past ten years or so and make them register as President Franklin Delano Roosevelt et.al did with the Japanese following the Pearl Harbor attack on December 7, 1941. We must stop the madness!

If you are going to immigrate to “the West” and in-particular, the United States, then you should dress as WE do. No burkas or other loose clothing that can conceal bombs or suicide vests allowed! Have we not learned this by now? Here at the the end of the year 2015, there is no longer a place for “politically correct” defense of my country. Ah, “politically correct” – a phrase created by the President William Clinton and his wife who is, not so coincidentally running for president in 2016 – another dumb move and I will move to another country if she and her band of idiots is elected.

We lost the fight after “9/11” and ever since the Camel Jockies are increasingly kicking our collective traditional asses with these cowardly surprise attacks upon innocent people trying to have a life – and for what gain? I am including Paris, France and all of the “NATO” winners of World War II in this. I am including Russia in this summation. Now is the time for the nations who built a positive world history in the wake of World War I and II and of the past three hundred years or more to conciliate a succinct Hiroshima/Nagasaki strategy to annihilate this annoying “Isshit” threat once and for all so that we can come back to at least an 1980s-style, Peace on Earth, collateral damage and all. They asked for it, we should give it to them! For our present and for your children’s future.

2015 Pick Hitts: A fashion trend which should end in 2016: “Hoodies”. They make you look suspicious, like a thug, “terrorist” or even like a Ku Klux Klansman (Citadel cadets). I have observed foolish guys who drive with them on inside their vehicles! Stupid – you cannot hear enough and it dulls your all of the senses you need to drive and avoid a wreck!
Hoods used to mean “thugs” or gangsters in the 1960s; Hooded sweatshirt were once only a functional item in our closets to be worn in bad weather! So lets return them to that status in 2016!

I long for the days when I could “sleep like a dead man”. Do you remember when you were a carefree kid and your sleep was sweet? I remember when I slept so deeply that I could not recall my dreams! Now, with so much shit on my mind daily, it is difficult to “quiet the mind” enough to sleep long and soundly – without “PM” drugs, lol Bring back the good old days! Is this what is it when you are over sixty and healthy – things like cuts and colds take two months to heal? I am sure that once I move to my next and final destination with my new wife and my music free from basement storage, I will have “sweet dreams are made of this” again. Pray for it – for all of us.

There are so many other words that more accurately portray the barbaric violence of people blowing themselves up in the name of Allah or randomlyly shooting up innocents that you can use that would even galvanize we-the-people to rise up in-force to combat this meanace! No Wonder The Boy Scouts of America’s Ranks Recently Dropped, They Want To Admit Homosexual Males!

After being a news junkie for many years – partly because I worked in radio and could not avoid it – I now try my best not listen to or watch the news anymore and this story is one reason why.  Shit has just gotten so way off of the map these days and common sense seems a thing of the past. What our generation learned at the knee of our parents, who were thoughtfully strict, seems to have been flipped upon its head!  “Down is up and up is down” to take a phrase from the famous English author Charles Lutwidge Dodgson’s novel, “Alice In Wonderland”.
I heard about this story in a cursory manner about six months ago and immediately flashed-back to my days as a Cub Scout and Boy Scout. 

My Mom was a “Den Mother” and our weekly meetings were held at a nearby Presbyterian church. My family was not of the Presbyterian faith, by-the-way, but that didn’t matter; people were not so insensibly sensitive back then, we had bigger fish to fry like the Vietnam War. 
Can you imagine a Scout meeting these days at a house of worship where the “BSA” would have homosexual-leaning “boys” among the membership?  What would the Pastor, Den Mother or Scoutmaster think or do with this situation?  What if hanky-panky took place or was attempted in the shower or a camping tent on a field trip?

Why do gays want to infiltrate the Boy Scouts/Girl Scouts anyway? Why does sexual “preference” in children who are still learning about their genitalia mean anything and isn’t all of this “TMI”??

I have the solution: they could form their own group, IMO, the “GAY Scouts of America”! lol It makes perfect sense! What were the leaders of the BSA thinking by attempting this move? (They obviously were not thinking.)  If I had a son as a Scout at the time they went public with this new announcement, I would have surely pulled him out upon learning of this news. Even President Obama is clueless on this issue. His legacy will become “the gay president” at this rate, lol 
Where in the Scout Handbook or Boy Scout Oath does it say “Scouts must cave to political pressure from groups who want to push their sexual preferences upon the masses and traditional inspirational organizations”?

Obama not Divisive, Talk Radio Is and FCC Gave It License to Be That way

My car has a cassette player along with the CD player and radio, and most of the time, while I  drive around town, doing my errands,  I play a cassette from my glory days on the air.  Not  all the time, but recently I have played some stuff from the mid-1980s when I was at  my personal “mountaintop” on the number one New York City radio station.

Later in the day, I got back in my car, not playing the cassette, and due to hitting the “scan” button rather than my programmed FM stations, I heard host Michael Savage act like his surname on one of these political talk stations, ( local Cumulus, one of the evil radio empire’s outlets) espousing about how “Obama is the most divisive President in history!”  As I’m driving, I thought how stupid and potentially racist this host sounded, unabashed at the divisions and anger that he was creating with his words upon those ears within the sound of his voice.  President Obama is still cleaning-up the mess of eight years of Bushwacking part deux. I thought,  “How can the managers of these radio stations allow these ‘little Hitlers’ on the air daily?  The do not practice  “free speech”, it is ignorant hate speech sanctioned by the selectively three-monkey mentality of the FCC of the past twenty years. 

Then it came to me again that it is this kind of “talk radio” that is responsible for creating all of these “angry voters” because  they are the divisive ones.  How did they get  this way, you ask?  Intelligence – or the lack thereof on the radio today on these stations.  Simply, the FCC now will allow anybody on the radio or TV.  When I began in radio, in order to even break [open] the microphone on the air, you had to pass a difficult test: the FCC Third Class License exam.  Although I hated studying how to calculate the plate voltage and the plate current at the time, I now look back on the process as one that filtered these casual “entertainers with an agenda” who have become so prolific and selfish with their messages that they’d rather create havoc under the guise of needed political discourse which become controversy that veils any positive discourse, than espouse messages of diverse unity and commonality for all peoples from we true radio professionals that even went to school for it or paid the “dues” necessary to get to the major markets.

I bet none of the popular political talk show hosts, from Limbaugh to whoever, could pass that test if it was required today!  Happily, if that were the case, none of them would be allowed on the radio!

The remedy?  Please, Federal Communications Commission, bring back the Third Class License test as it was when you abandoned it, so that intelligent broadcasters can return to the air who may disagree without yelling “fire!” in a crowded theater.  America, put political “talk radio” out of business; advertisers pull your spots!  PUL-EEEZE, for the unity of the U.S.A.’s sake – and what is left of terrestrial radio (which sadly, ain’t much); dont you think?  Holla back.

Pickhit Update:  Congresswoman shot in Arizona made me come right back to this post. This is what I mean, tragically and graphically illustrated. Make people get FCC licences to be on the air – it is one way to filter the hate-speech that can insight lunatics like this shooter .

The Catnip Tea Party

Once upon a time, in Social Studies class (do they still teach that?), I embraced the whole concept and colors of the Revolutionary War, when that was our teacher’s topic de semester, which culminated in our current annual Fourth Of July celebration in the U.S.A.  Part of the run-up to that conflict was an event known as the Boston Tea Party, which basically was about “taxation without representation” and the most enduring image in my mind is how the new Colonists threw crates of tea from “Mother England” overboard in Boston Harbor in protest, if my memory serves me correctly.

That image is why I know that those revolutionaries are twirling in their graves like the Twizzler maker factory because their one inclusive message of forming a new, united place, free from tunnel-visioned tyranny is now hijacked by closet bigots who give the administration of the first Brown-skinned President a much shorter “leash” (and I don’t like to use that term with President Obama) than previous Oval Office occupants and employ a big time double-standard upon his first term agenda.

Their champion is Sarah Palin?  This chick and Faust-like John McCain must have had quite a romp in the netherworld some disenchanted evening while Mrs. McCain (who looks like she once was nicknamed “Bela”) watched with glee, filing her fingernails to sharp points all the while.  Palin would put me to sleep always and immediately if not for her annoying way of speaking.  Is that an Alaskan accent?  I hope not; she is like the flies that come buzzing about me while I am quietly trying to read or write something intelligent on my front porch on a summer’s afternoon.  And what is this “voter anger” they are promoting?  IMO, the only “voters” who are angry are the ones who woke-up the day after the 2008 Election Day and realized that yes, the majority of their neighbors actually voted in a non-Caucasian man as our President! They are inconsolable and will always be “angry” – they are probably “angry” at what looks back at them in the mirror and have really short memories about who and what the alternatives are.

Why the news media’s apparent fascination with this Camellia sinensis? How can the pundits use this made-up group to read the tea leaves of an election?  It can only be explained by the fact that many TV News Directors now are women, the “reality tv” fad is infecting that programming and of course, all little girls liked to play “tea party” and create false drama with their Susie Homemaker houses once upon a time, right?  “Lets have tea! Oh, how adorable!” :-J

Defacit, Schmefacit, Don’t become DisappointObama: With Afghanistan, Stay True to Change Please

Defacit, Schmefacit!  Nine years after the cowardly crashing of planes into our buildings here in the USA, we are no closer to finding the mastermind, Osama Bin Laden, I guess, because no news media seems to be on the case of tracking him or creating a “clock” of how many hours, minutes and seconds it has been since he attacked us and we have still not captured him.  If they would have been so vigilant about him as with the oil in the Gulf of Mexico, he’d be dead or in a supermax prison by now.

So now, true to the words of a book I read, we are in another quagmire called the “graveyard of empires” –  with us, in America, the latest “super power”  as victims. 

Can you spell “Vietnam”, President Obama? Don’t you see the parallels?  Therefore, be true to your campaign words on this one if ever you want a second term!  This is how these Talibans and Al -Queda break great countries like ours and the Soviet Union.  They are doing it financially through attrition of us pouring more and more “troops” (i.e. money) into a region that is as foreign to this planet as Mount Everest is, just not as high in altitude.  You let the crusty old white men we now call the GOP Obstrublicans gain points by talking “deficit reduction” and justifying not renewing Unemployment benefits for millions of us who voted for you when if you would get us out of Afghanishole we would not have to spend that money and would be back in the Clinton era ‘black’ (and I am not a Clinton fan either). You do this without even one of your eloquent speeches back at them – WTF???  You must know that you are viewed via a double-standard that your predecessors were not, right?

 There is no “win” in Afghanistan, Mr. President, Dude! My late Dad, the second world war field artillery Major, would say,”we are fighting with one hand tied behind our backs”.  We should have nuked them right after September eleventh. 

So now we need to re-focus on capturing Osama Bin Laden the way we do things best: covertly with our special forces or even “spies” (like our friends the Russians, recently lol) and bring the bulk of the troops home because they are only killing time the way the people over there want us to.  They are mocking this “big power” as yet another foolish, arrogant military machine who does not learn from the lessons of other similar chest beaters who failed in the recent past.

took them several weeks to get their story straight on this one.  and it wouldn’t have come to this point had a fox journalist not asked obama about it yesterday at his “blame the oil company” press conference of which even cnn and msnbc are saying was horrible.  and after their lunch yesterday, bill clinton, who has never lied under oath, takes the hit.  lmao.  this is undoubtedly one of the most corrupt administrations to come along in years.  and the main stream media is slowly but surely having to wake up and acknowledge it.   and imagine had the oil spill taken place under bush’s administration.  the press would be screaming about it and blaming him for it and the total lack of response to it.  ironically very little has been done by the current administration about it.  how many weeks has it been now?  of course i am skeptical of all politicians and o has given me more reason to be.  he’s proven to be just another puppet.  and i loved his comment about how desperate the oil companies are getting having to drill for oil miles beneath the ocean floor.  duh, since we refuse to allow them to drill our biggest on land oil reserves what are they supposed to do.  it appears to be much safer and ecologically friendly to drill on land, so maybe they will wake up and issue more on land oil drilling permits.  but i am not holding my breath. I mean if we can ban all domestic oil drilling, then the middle easterners will hold all the power.  rock on king o rock on.  ha!

Now I like a good humor bar as much as the next guy and maybe more than many but…no LOL here.

I don’t “do” politics or religion…too divisive.  However, I WILL say this, and whoever can take it back to the racist talk radio pundits like Limbaugh who just want to nit-pick the First Blackish President of the United States and stir the caldron of hate.  President Obama (as much as you do not like to “hear” that expression) did not CAUSE not bears any “responsibility” for the BP/Deep H2O Horizon ( sounds like a sci-fi movie btw) oil spill disaster.  Actually No President can do much about a sudden natural or as in THIS case, man-made disaster.

Let us reset the timeline TRUTHfully now…

If we are to play the “blame game” visa v ANY of our recent leaders then Jock Ewing aka George HW Bush and his evil son “JR Ewing”, or “dubya” of the oil barons of the group should bear the brunt of it for putting in-place the access to drill in the Gulf of Mexico for US and worldwide oil companies, as well as those going back to the 1940s who began to drill and did not advertise it to the civilian population. 

Last time I checked, President Obama (I LOVE to say that) was not on-duty when those deals were made with a WINK and a Nod like the old “good ole boys (white man) network is legendary to do.  So STOP  the stereotypical race baiting double standard NOW .  The Bushwakers and Reagan endorsers are more complicit than our present President EVER will be over the past twenty years, and President Obama is only trying desperately to clean-up their mess while not seeming subservient in the role of another Blackish man having to clean-up after foolishly arrogant and greedy “white guys”.  This will have nothing to do with his “legacy”, none of us is perfect and last time I looked the most recent really “corrupt” Presidency was Richard Nixon’s. 

I know some white American people (esp. males) have trouble with a Blackish man in the Presidency, but get over it…it is our turn and NOW you get to see what it has been like for “US” lo these many past scores and decades, when our voices went unheard.  And what is with this calling him a “King”?  Oh, soo do some want to be like England again, eh?

 ’nuff Said’ as Marvel Comics’ Stan Lee used to say.  The plug needs to be pulled on hate talk radio; those who advertise on these divisive shows should be ashamed of themselves and their bank accounts funneled to those of us regular positive and friendly people who can use the money.
